Today, I has lunch with Alexandra, a young friend.
I have been working with her about once a week since early fall on nutritional counseling. I’m still new at all this, but it’s been really neat to interact with a pre-teen who reminds me so much of myself at that age. We talk about motivations behind eating, portion sizes, healthy snacks for sports and making good choices. I hope she’s getting as much out of it as I am!
We’ve been talking about going out to eat for awhile now, and we’ve done a couple lessons on reading a restaurant menu and looking for healthy options. Today, we chose Taste, our local coffee shop and bistro, for a late lunch.
We practiced what I’ve been preaching: sharing/splitting meals, limiting rich food and dressings and moderation.
We shared both the Gardener’s Grilled Cheese (her favorite) and a Croyroft Salad (a healthy option with chickpeas). Here is my plate:
I was so proud of Alex for being willing to share her sandwich, using her fork to dip into the salad dressing instead of pouring it on top, not finishing the extra feta cheese leftover in her bowl, and even saving some of her Orangina drink for later. She’s learning!
